OUR STORY

A Legacy of Light, Love, and Miraculous Strength.
Everett Scott McCurry was born on October 12, 2022 — perfect, beautiful, and wonderfully made. From the very beginning, his life was marked by both incredible challenges and indescribable joy.
At 30 weeks pregnant, we learned that Everett had stopped growing in the womb — and then began losing weight. Doctors prepared us for the worst, scheduling an emergency C-section and warning that he would most likely be stillborn. But Everett defied every expectation and entered the world breathing — the very first of hundreds of miracles we would witness in his life.
He weighed just 4 pounds and remained at that fragile weight for several months due to his medical complexities. He was soon diagnosed with 1P36 Deletion Syndrome, a rare chromosome disorder, along with over eight severe congenital heart defects (CHD) — a combination so rare and complex it left doctors searching for answers.
He spent nearly a full year of his 16 months on earth in the hospital — split between Ochsner in New Orleans and Arkansas Children’s Hospital — bravely enduring battle after battle. The first four months of his life were spent entirely inpatient. We never got to bring him home during that time. Instead, we lived out of hotels and hospital rooms, navigating the constant unknowns of critical care. He relied fully on oxygen support and a feeding tube just to survive.
Everett underwent multiple heart catheterizations and had stents placed in his tiny heart to help stabilize him until he was big enough for his full open-heart repair. He endured procedures, intense treatments, brain surgery, and more needle pokes than most people face in a lifetime. Despite it all, he brought light into every room.
His strength was unshakable. His smile — even in pain — was unforgettable. And his life was a miracle in motion, every single day.

In early 2023, Everett was scheduled for the open-heart surgery he had waited his whole life for. But when the team went in to operate, they discovered his heart function was too low — he was too fragile to survive the procedure. We were told there was nothing more they could do and were sent home on hospice care. Because of the complexity of his conditions, Everett was denied surgery by hospitals all across the U.S. - but God had other plans.
Miraculously, a world-renowned surgeon, Dr. King, happened to live right in our small hometown of West Monroe, Louisiana. He became one of Everett’s greatest advocates. With God's hand on every detail, and after being denied by six major hospitals, Everett was finally accepted at Arkansas Children’s Hospital for surgery.
We were told he wouldn’t make it through the surgery and to prepare for goodbye, but as he always did, by the grace of God, he defied every odd and every prediction. He made it through the surgery — miraculously and powerfully — giving us three more months that we will cherish forever. Those months were filled with morning snuggles at home, meeting new milestones, sweet smiles, and memories we now hold tighter than words can describe. It was a season of deep love, treasured moments, and undeniable purpose.
Miracles on Miracles.

On March 8, 2024, Everett was fully healed in the arms of Jesus. In the weeks leading up to that day, Everett’s body began shutting down—slowly, painfully—and there was nothing more we could do. This is when our prayers changed to “Lord, please heal him whatever that may look like- here on earth or in heaven.” He had endured more suffering than any baby ever should. The pain he was in during those final days was unbearable. But even in the midst of that unimaginable sorrow, God was near.
Healed, Whole, and Held in the Arms of Jesus.

He taught us how to love deeper, trust God fuller, and cling to hope in the hardest moments.
Everett showed us what it means to fight with joy, to smile in suffering, and to live fully even when time is uncertain. His life shifted our perspective completely — showing us how present God can be even in the valley, how light can shine through even the darkest of night. We experienced miracle after miracle, many small and some undeniable — all of them reminders that Jesus was walking beside us hand in hand, and that heaven was always near.
Out of that light, Everett’s Light Foundation was born — to carry his story forward and wrap other families in the same love, strength, and comfort that carried us through the darkest valley.
This foundation is more than a tribute; it’s a response to the way God showed up in the middle of heartbreak. It's a reflection of the miracles we witnessed, the peace that met us in impossible moments, and the deep desire to make sure no family ever feels alone in their suffering.
Everett’s legacy isn’t just his story — it’s the way God moved through it. It's the hope that broke through hopelessness, the light that pierced the dark, the gentle reminder that even in pain, beauty can rise.
Every care package, every prayer, every message of encouragement we send is a piece of that legacy — a reminder that light still shines, even in the dark. His light continues not just in memory, but in action — through every family we serve and every heart we help hold.
Everett’s life, though short, left an eternal impact.
